Mythic encounters

Here's one: what creature or character inspired by myth, legend, or folklore can your characters encounter? Try and make it something different from the norm, and perhaps drawn from a lesser-known mythos.
How would your characters respond to such an encounter? And, how would the mythic person or beast respond in return? _________________ "I'm going to do what the warriors of old did. I'm going to recite poetry!"
