I just wanted to give you all a short update on some of the changes around here at ARWZ.
Things won't change too much on the surface, but the underlying structure of how ARWZ works has changed. In order to save time in the publishing process of magazine articles, I have implemented a multi-author blog on the Movable Type blogging platform that will allow contributors to publish their reviews, articles and columns directly to ARWZ (without having to wait for me to get around to reading, editing and publishing it as HTML). All articles will be published in the blog and their listings will automatically appear on the main page. Old articles will be retained in archive, but I hope eventually to convert all departments of the magazine to this form.
As a result, we are looking for people willing to contribute articles to this main blog. If you're interested in writing reviews, articles or a column for the magazine, or even mirroring reviews you write for another site or blog, please let me know.
In addition, Movable type gives me the functionality to create individual blogs for anyone who is interested. I realize that many of you have blogs here on the forums already, but I think you'll agree those have turned out to be somewhat dubious in terms of functionality. They are very vulnerable to spammers, and pretty basic, lacking many customization features. The Movable Type blogs are well-secured, professionally designed, and fully-featured.
If anyone would like to keep a blog on Movable type, please let me know. It is my hope to integrate these individual blogs into ARWZ eventually as well. The forum blogs will remain as is for the time being, but we will stop promoting them through our RSS feeds on the main pages. Anyone who wants a new blog is welcome to transfer their old entries.
Unfortunately, there isn't automated setup (or at least I haven't figured out how to implement it yet) on the new blogs, so I will need to add authors and blogs manually. Please let me know if you're interested in being a contributor and/or blogger on the new Movable Type platform. Also, if you have any questions on the system in general, please ask them here. _________________ Violet "Violanthe" Kane

links: how do i code for a hyperlink in moveable type? in wysiwg there isn't an icon for it, and when i tried standard html coding, it didn't work.
trackbacks: i don't really know what a trackback is or how it works, but if you go into trackbacks (under community) in moveable type, it's full of spam. The spam doesn't show up on arwz until it is authorized by an administrator, which is a good thing. so we can delete each one, but is there an option for "do not allow trackbacks"? uggh, i just noticed some spam in the comments section too (also don't show up until authorized or "published". anyway to block trackbacks, and require commenters to be signed in members of arwz?
other than that, i think the whole set up is pretty sweet.
Right next to the "ReDo" and "UnDo" buttons at the top of the entry block, there are buttons for creating and undoing links.
I don't want people commenting to have to login at this point. If the spam gets out of hand, maybe, but in the meantime we can just delete the spam before it ever sees the light of day (same with trackbacks) which is great, because the old blogging system didn't even allow for that much control. If there was a login, then we'd just get spammers registering for accounts, anyway. _________________ Violet "Violanthe" Kane
