What size is your paperback?

The compact mass market paperbacks of old seem to be giving way increasingly to larger paperback books more akin to hardcovers. What are the pros and cons of each? Which do you prefer? _________________ Violet "Violanthe" Kane

Mass market paperbacks are the most convenient if it is a short novel, but with longer books I prefer either the trade paperback or hardcover. |

I agree.
The con is that trade paperbacks are becoming increasingly expensive. But I suppose that holds true for anything.
I prefer mass paperbacks for transport sake. But I often find the cover art more attractive on trades and hardcovers. _________________ Harker: ...I sometimes write stories.

Standard Size-- Or Else.

Um, I'll rarely buy fiction outside standard pb size-- 172x103 mm, six and three-quarters by four and a bit inches.
Otherwise it will not rack'n'stack...
I'm more tolerant of non-fiction. |

Different shelves...

My non-fiction acquisitions don't have to compete for the same shelves as fiction. I buy few enough that they can fit in. Fiction must stack two deep... |

Fiction and nonfiction constantly bicker.
NF calls F "delusional".
F calls NF "argumentative".
But, also, because individual NF titles have a smaller market, most NF is published in trade PB or hard cover formats.
As for stacking, I have so many books in various formats that I've gotten very creative at shelving them. _________________ Harker: ...I sometimes write stories.

yay, i'm not the only one who stacks books two deep on the bookshelves!! however we've been auditing our furniture to be able to fit more bookshelves in.
i'm a fan of the smaller, fatter paperbacks (mass market??) . the stack on my bookshelves nicely (the taller ones have to go on the end of the shelf, or get their own lumpy shelf), and those little paperbacks fit perfectly in my purse for easy transport.
non fiction wise, i'm not picky at all. tho paperback is a plus, weight wise. |

I prefer the smaller ones because they are more portable _________________
