Take it a step at a time, Vio. I've heard it said that no one would write a novel if he knew how difficult it would be. Plot your outline. Start with the first sentence.

I'm not sure if this is similar to what you're talking about, but I've got so many ideas that I want to write about that I will probably never get to them all. And maybe I would find out that they wouldn't work if I actually got around to writing about them, but they are permanently stuck in my head until I actually do something about it..
I think that's just the curse of being a writer.
Like David said, you have to take it one step at a time. I also think you have to prioritize things. If this complex, overwhelming plot, character, or setting is a priority, if it seems liike a winner, go with it. If it gives you trouble, move on to something else for the moment. Think about it before you tackle it. Give your mind a chance to mull it over, then try some planning, then start writing. _________________ "I'm going to do what the warriors of old did. I've often woken with a tale in my head, had to let it go...
I've spent three decades trying to chronicle The Convention, know there's enough on-going and loose ends to keep me busy until 2020...
Then there's my Curious Tales, and Red Tower, too...
Sometimes, just sometimes, I can set my teeth into a tale and tell it well. Unless something extraordinary happens, like 'Project Lorraine', I'll not risk taking on a new arc...
This happened to me once when I tried to write a high concept epic fantasy. I conceived a plot, characters and system of magical concepts that were simply too large. I got simultaneously overwhelmed and disinterested about 100 pages in.
