The only horror movie I went to see in the cinema was: Scream 2.
And that one wasn't really scary.
Although I enjoy watching good horror movies from time to time, I think I would never spend money to see them at the movie theater - I would rather wait until they are out on DVD ..
For me, one of the scariest horror movies of all times is: The Ring (Japanese version) .. The first time I watched it, it was on the PC .. and still, I had troubles falling asleep when I was home alone at night.
I totally love watching horror tv shows like for example: Supernatural. |

I'm not big on any type of "horror" that sets out to startle or scare you. Call me crazy, but I don't like looking in the closets and under the bed before I go to sleep every night for two weeks after I watch a horror flick.
Movies and shows that simply deal with traditionally horror characters and themes like vampires, death and darkness, etc. are fine with me, though. Buffy was always a favorite. _________________ Violet "Violanthe" Kane

Buffy was and is really popular here, too.
When I explained Supernatural (tv show) to Thomas, the first thing he said was, "Is it like Buffy but darker?" |

Roger Corman's version of the House of Usher is the creepiest thing I've seen.
You could see the outcome of The Ring (Japanese and US remake) a mile off and it sort of ruined the suspense, so to speak. |

I have to watch out for House of Usher Thx!
You really knew what was going to happen while watching The Ring? Did someone tell you? - Luckily, I didn't know about the TV scene before watching the movie, and it had me totally horrified ... |

Yes, I do watch horror movies and tv shows. However, I tend to like the classics. I prefer atmosphere over gore. I would be very unlikely to go to the theatre to see a horror movie.
I love to watch the classic movies and shows on dvd, especially around Halloween. One of my favourite shows is the old Kolchak: the Night Stalker with Darren McGavin. I liked how it often delved into folklore for stories. _________________ "I'm going to do what the warriors of old did. I'm going to recite poetry!"

I actually really like horror movies and have no objection to seeing them in a movie theater although I haven't seen one in a theater in a LONG time. That speaks more to my objection to ticket prices than anything else, though.
And I like all kinds if they're done well, whether atmosphere driven or gore ridden, whether about monsters or the evil within as it were. The main problem is that so many are so bad. Sometimes so bad that I can't stop watching due to the amusement factor.
Some faves off the top of my head would be Psycho (the original), The Exorcist, The Silence of the Lambs (probably my top fave although calling it a horror movie is a bit dubious), A Nightmare on Elm Street (the sequels were fun, but the first was actually good), The Shining, Misery, and Dawn of the Dead. Seems like a decent cross section.
The best horror movie I've seen thats of fairly recent vintage would be The Descent. I expected mediocrity at best and was blown away by how good it turned out. And due to the way its lit you have to watch it in the dark! I thought The Ring was good until the ending. |

Chupacabra
I have The Descent, just have not watched it yet.
Now, with you recommending it to me I know which horror movie I am going to watch next time I am in the mood for horror |
