How soon in your story does the main conflict start? First page, first paragraph, first line? Later than that?

I prefer to have something happen as soon as practicable. It may only provide background for character, but I'm not a good enough writer to impress with my burbling prose alone...

Something should happen right away, but it doesn't necessarily have to be the main plot. It can be a subplot or the McGuffin or what have you. However, something interesting should happen asap.

Well, ideally, every line of the story should be interesting, right?

Only if it suits the tale's pace, surely ??

Um, we're drifting into versifying territory, methinks...

So, if it suits the story's pace to be uninteresting, it should be?
