What do alternative reality genres have in common?

So often we take up with individual genres, finding ourselves in the "scifi camp", the "fantasy camp", or the "horror camp" with little or no switching between. Why is it, then, that so many people group these three genres under one heading? Should we group them under a common heading at all? Are there intrinsic similarities that mark them as natural allies in fiction? _________________ S.K. Slevinski

I'm not sure, but off the top of my head, fantasy seems to have more in common with science fiction and horror than those genres have with each other.
