I have read the book. I agree with the review. It will definitely appeal to fantasy readers. I am not one. I read it for a book discussion and have no plans to read any of her other books. Not my cup of tea.
It is really hard to explain. I didn't really like any of the characters in the book. It could be my general distaste for fantasy, althought I like George RR Martin's series. Maybe it was her style. It has been awhile since I read the book. It wasn't the intrigue, I like that in a book.
Kushiel's Dart is in my TOP 5 fantasy books. Something about Carey's world and writing style just clicked with me. I loved the idea of having angels are the founding fathers of the different bloodlines.
I liked the next book and absolutely loved the third one. The characters grow and change so much in the three books.
My main gripe was that the book was too huge in scope. I would have liked to see the first book broken up into a trilogy where each part was shorter by more fleshed out. _________________ Violet "Violanthe" Kane
