That's actually the second sentence in Nekropolis by Maureen F. McHugh.

The first is, "How I came to be jessed."

It's not really a sentence, though. I guess we're talking about opening lines, not sentences. But it's un-sentence-ness made me skip over it to the second sentence.

But, yes, Nekropolis it is!
