Some that I'm partial to:
There are also excellent covers for all of The Lord of the Rings, but I couldn't find decent pictures of the really good ones. _________________ "It ain't all buttons and charts little Albatross. Yeah, and some of the better ones either aren't up or the pictures of them are too small to make good sense of. The Dark Tower covers are good, though. _________________ "It ain't all buttons and charts little Albatross. You know what the first rule of flyin' is?... Love. Frank Frazetta, in my opinion, had the greatest cover art ever. He spawned a whole generation of fantasy artists, including Boris.
This is the cover that changed my whole life when I discovered it as a teen; it just sparked my imagination and made me realize there was writing out there that was beyond The Hardy Boys:

Their sense of adventure, the first cover, despite it being simply a man resting on his sword bespeaks of an entire bloody conflict, the barbarian battling an army of foes to protect the damsel. The rippling muscles, the stoic expression. Action in repose.
I think you also have to consider the day, these covers came out in the late 60s, early 70s. No one at that time was creating heroic fantasy of this nature. Frazetta captured the essense of what was the whole sword and sorcery genre with grim barbarians, scantily clothed nubile women, demons, monsters and sorcerors.
I might ask what the previous posters found interesting in their chosen covers. |

Why do I like them? It just goes back to my love of the dark, creepy, and bizarre. Covers like that make me pick up the book and wonder, "What sort of creatures reside in these pages?" The cover for Shriek does wonders for me bacause fungus will always have a special place in my heart and on the left-overs in my fridge. |

I am a fan of the covers for Brian Jaques Redwall series. I think they are quite aesthetic and definately show creativity in bringing to the physical eye what the author paints for the literal one. _________________ .Coi Ta De. |

I love those covers, Queen, especially the Lovecraft and the Gene Wolfe.
I like this cover because it looks like a fun read. |
