If you've never read this book, or had no clue where the opener comes from, then how does it strike you? If you had only this opener to go on, would you read more? Does it grab you and spur you to read on? Or does it leave you unenthusiastic?
If you read the book it came from, did you remember right away or did you have to look it up? What made it so memorable - or not so memorable?

Now, I don't know, 'cause I haven't googled it yet, but given that this is an SFF page, and they're talkin' about necks and pulses and whatnot, I'm gonna go out on a limb and assume it's a book about vampires. So here's my thing: ironic though it may be for someone registered on an SFF site, I don't read a lot of SFF. But I do wanna know:
Why in the hell are vampires always named shit like "Dante," and why in the hell are they always in Da Club? Seriously. What's up with that? Can we please get some vampires named Matt that like, hang out at the coffee shop? There's a lot of nerdy girls there that would be happy to go home with someone and unwittingly get their blood sucked! Do vampires have to be all industrial/techno/S&M all the time? _________________ Come visit my website! It's reasonably awesome! www.sabrinaspiher.com
I don't know what to say. I might give the first chapter a shot based purely on the desire to see if it can maintain that degree of hilarity...But that would probably be enough.
