Sorry, I haven't dropped in for a while, but I was surprised to see how quiet the forums have been...
I've been working on 'P for Pleistocene' for over a year now, have got it up to about ~120k words. Unfortunately, I lost a month over Christmas due illness, and I'm currently trying to pick up the threads after severe viral bronchitis. Current chapter's drafts are fit only for recycling-- Clearly, I'm not well yet...
On a lighter note, I woke from a fever dream with a complete Alien Invasion scenario rattling around in my skull. I managed to bang it out as a ~3000 word short plus notes and be rid-- I did not need its distraction !!
Hi Nik... yes unfortunately the forums haven't been getting much attention lately. I also haven't been reading/watching much SFF lately and so the reviews aren't coming very fast either. Thanks for keeping tabs on us and checking in. Glad to hear your writing is going well. _________________ Violet "Violanthe" Kane

I don't think I've been here for a number of years... lots of life going on. Ican't remember when I was here last. Found the url in my favorites on my old laptop. Hope all is well with everyone!
I suppose forums like this, and the Science Fiction Message Board, are less "cutting edge" than they used to be, with the rise of blogs and facebook and twitter, very little of which I can work out how to use. But yes, good to know the place is still here. _________________

I don't think it is that forums like this have been eclipsed by blogs and such. This is a specialized community. The problem is that people go through different periods in their life and some of those periods take them away from such things. At least, that's how it's been for me. I've had a lot of good times here, and then life interferes. When I come back it's all new names and the people I missed have had their own reasons for falling away.
The thing that keeps places like this alive is a constant influx of new people, and that takes work to make happen. And since our lovely Vio has life distractions of her own and this site is not a commercial venture, the required effort to cosntantly bring in new members isn't being done.
That is not a recrimination; Vio has put in an uncountable number of thankless hours on this site. I may rarely show my face around here, but I am always glad to see the site is still up, and I am grateful for the times I have spent here, the discussions had, the debates argued, and the friends made even if only in passing.
Thanks for giving me that, Vio. And don't ever think that out of sight is out of mind -- at least not in this case.
I've been back in school the last couple of years so I haven't been able to do much reading except for study purposes. Unfortunately, this also means I haven't done much writing. But don't feel too bitter, my SF friends. I have also had very little contact with my other board, Bestsellers & Literature so you're not alone in your suffering.
I actually am happy this place is still alive, even if it's not quite as busy as it used to be. Thanks so much to Vio and Sarah for keeping it up regardless of Life happening. _________________ Harker: ...I sometimes write stories.
